Balkan Beat Box at Crystal Ballroom Mar 3rd at 8pm

Okay, this could be an amazing show. Also, this is the first time this group has been in this area.

Balkan Beat Box will be playing at the Crystal Ballroom on March 3rd, 2008. The show starts at 8pm.

You can check out what they sound like on their website, or on their myspace page.

From the myspace page:

“Balkan Beat Box is steeped with an intense lifetime of research into their own non-Western roots as well as other cultures. A quasi-circus event, BBB performs with a core of 6 musicians, collaborating with artists from Bulgaria, Morocco, Spain, Israel, and Turkey who draw on a variety of styles from around the world. Every event keeps the audience guessing what the next surprise will be.

BBB makes connections that politics often keep separate. Jewish, Gypsy, Arabic, and American are united by hip hop beats and dancehall toasts. BBB’s musical hitch-hiking continues as they mix things up with dub and electronics, juxtaposed with ancient Moroccan and Mediterranean melodies. The band’s uncategorizable sound gives equal weight to soulful acoustic timbres and digital rhythms creating a uniquely organic sound with electronic elements.”

Too cool for school! This is going to be a really great show.

Oh crap, I have something scheduled for that night already. Oh, woe! Well, they play on the 2nd in Seattle and on the 4th in Eugene … maybe I can make the trip to one of those shows instead.

Update 19feb08:

Turns out that this show is part of a three-day series of shows by The March Fourth Marching Band [also]. That makes this date even that much more amazingly cool. I’m really feeling torn that I’m not going to be able to go to this now, even more than before!

The first days of march look to be a crazy good time for shows. Not only are Balkan Beat Box in town for the first time ever and March Fourth is playing 3 shows, but Cheb i Sabbah is also in town on March 1st.
